A Prayer to Be a Lighthouse

Heavenly Father,

I come before You with an open heart, humbled and grateful to be called Your child. In a world that often feels dim and heavy, I ask that You make me a lighthouse — steady, strong, and unshakable in Your truth. Let my life shine with the radiance of Your presence, guiding others through the storms of doubt, fear, and despair toward the safe harbor of Your grace.

Lord, may Your love rise in me each morning like the sun — bold, warm, and full of promise. Let it chase away the shadows in my own heart so that I may carry its warmth to others. Let Your light not just rest on me, but burn within me, igniting every word I speak and every step I take. Make me a living flame that reflects the hope of Christ, steady even when the winds howl and the waves rise.

Help me to see the people around me with Your eyes — not as strangers, but as souls You deeply love. Teach me to listen with compassion, to speak with kindness, and to serve with joy. May my presence be a balm, a safe place, a reflection of Your heart. Let the pulse of Your love beat strong within me, a rhythm that draws others closer to You — not by my strength, but by the overflow of Your Spirit.

When I feel insignificant, remind me that even the tiniest spark can scatter darkness. When the weight of the world feels too much, whisper to my soul that I am never alone — that I am held by the One who is Love and Light. And when my light flickers, let Your Spirit fan it back into flame.

Make me bold in my faith, not for my own glory but so that others may see You in me. Let every act of love I extend be a reflection of the cross, and every word I share be soaked in grace and truth. Use my hands to heal, my voice to encourage, my heart to connect — all for the sake of Your Kingdom.

God, may I live as a lighthouse: rooted in Your promises, radiating with Your glory, and always pointing others home to You. May my life be a beacon that says, “There is more. There is hope. There is Jesus.”

In the name of the Light of the World — my Savior, my anchor, my guide — I pray.
Amen.

Devotional: The Lighthouse Keeper

It was a chilly morning on the coast, the kind where the ocean mist clung to everything and the horizon disappeared into a veil of gray. As I wrapped my hands around a mug of coffee and looked out over the water, I saw the lighthouse in the distance — standing tall and still, its light cutting through the fog.

It wasn’t grand or flashy. Just a simple tower, weathered by years of salt and storms. But its purpose was powerful — to guide, to warn, to lead others safely home.

I couldn’t stop staring at it. That lighthouse felt like a mirror of my own calling.

There are days I feel small, like my presence doesn’t matter in the vast sea of need, noise, and distractions. Days when I wonder if my words, my work, my faith are really making a difference. Maybe you’ve felt that way, too.

But as I watched the steady beam sweep across the morning sky, I sensed God whisper:
"You don’t have to be the sun. Just stay lit."

That moment reminded me — we aren’t called to be everything. We’re simply called to shine with the light we’ve been given. To reflect the love of Christ in whatever way He’s placed before us. A quiet conversation. A prayer lifted. A handmade piece crafted with intention. A post written in obedience. A gesture of kindness. None of it is wasted when it points to Him.

The lighthouse doesn’t control the storm. It doesn’t calm the waves. It doesn’t rescue the ships. But it shows the way — and that’s enough.

Jesus said in Matthew 5:14, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.”

That’s not just a verse — it’s a calling. To be present. To be steady. To let our lives testify: “There is more. There is hope. There is Jesus.”

So when you feel weary, let the Spirit be your flame. When you feel small, remember even one light can pierce the darkest night. And when you’re tempted to dim your glow because you’re not sure it’s enough — look to the lighthouse.

Stay lit, beloved. Someone out there is looking for home.

Hey there, As we turn the page into May, we’re stepping gently into a sacred space together here at Purpose + Grit. This month, our theme is one that touches every heart in some way—grief. Not just the kind that comes from losing someone we love, but the quiet, often unseen grief too… The prayers that went unanswered. The dreams that didn’t unfold the way we hoped. The versions of life we had to let go of. Grief doesn’t follow a timeline. It doesn’t ask for permission. And more often than not,...

Welcome to March. Here in the midwest, we often find that March doesn’t quite know what it wants to be. One day, the snow falls sideways in blizzard-like sheets — sharp and unrelenting. The next, the sun pours down warm and golden, and you can almost smell spring in the air. You see patches of grass bravely peeking through. You hear birds testing out their songs. You feel the hope of something new. And then — winter reminds you it isn’t finished yet. This is the season of the wait. We are...
