Not Every Open Door

This September, journey with us as we learn to notice the holy invitations God is placing before us—and find the courage to faithfully respond.

Prayer

Lord,

Help me distinguish open doors from Your invitations.

When an opportunity comes, keep me from rushing simply because it looks good.

Give me wisdom to ask whether it aligns with what You have actually given me to do.

Free me from the fear that if I don't say yes immediately, I will miss my one chance.

You are not limited by my hesitation.

You are not threatened by my no.

Help me trust You enough to pause.

Amen.

Verse of the Day

Reflection

We love open doors.

They feel like confirmation.

An opportunity appears.

Someone says yes.

The timing works.

The money is there.

The invitation arrives.

The door opens.

And we think:

Well, obviously God wants me to walk through it.

But an open door is not automatically a divine assignment.

Sometimes an open door is simply an open door.

And sometimes we walk through because we're afraid that if we don't, we'll miss our chance.

This is especially easy when you're building something, creating something, leading something, or dreaming about something.

There will always be another opportunity.

Another collaboration.

Another platform.

Another project.

Another idea.

Another thing you could do.

Discernment asks us to slow down long enough to ask:

Is this an invitation from God—or simply an opportunity I could take?

Those are not the same thing.

God is not so fragile that we can accidentally miss His entire plan because we didn't say yes to one email on Tuesday afternoon.

We can pause.

We can pray.

We can ask for wisdom.

We can let the excitement settle.

And we can trust that if something is truly ours to walk through, we don't have to sprint through it in fear.

Encouragement

Invitation

Think about one opportunity currently in front of you.

Before asking, “How can I make this work?”

Ask: “God, do You want me to walk through this door?”
