God,

Quiet the noise within me.

Teach me to pay attention—not with anxious scrutiny, but with the gentle awareness of someone who knows she is loved.

Help me notice what You are doing in my life today.

Where there is beauty, let me see it.

Where there is discomfort, let me listen.

Where there is longing, let me bring it to You.

Where there is peace, let me receive it.

And where there is noise, help me remember that I don't have to answer every question.

Make me attentive to You.

Amen.

Reflection

We live in a world that rewards attention—but rarely teaches us where to place it.

There is always something asking for it.

The notification.

The headline.

The unfinished task.

The next opportunity.

Someone else's success.

Someone else's opinion.

The thing you should be doing.

The thing you haven't done.

The thing you are afraid you're falling behind on.

And somewhere underneath all that noise, God is still speaking.

Not necessarily louder.

Just faithfully.

Perhaps one of the most spiritual things we can practice is simply paying attention.

Attention to what Scripture is stirring in you.

Attention to the person who keeps coming to mind.

Attention to the longing you keep pushing aside.

Attention to the beauty that makes you pause.

Attention to the discomfort that may be revealing something you need to address.

Attention to the peace that arrives when you finally stop forcing something.

Attention to the quiet.

Because God doesn't need to compete with the noise.

But we may need to become quiet enough to hear Him.

August taught us to tend.

September begins by asking us to look around the garden and notice what is happening.

Before you reach for the pruning shears...

Before you plant something new...

Before you decide what needs to change...

Look.

What is already happening?

Where is God already moving?

What keeps drawing your attention?

Maybe the invitation has been there longer than you realized.
