Prayer

God,

Teach me to recognize You in the quiet.

When I am looking for something dramatic, remind me that You are often found in the ordinary.

When I am demanding certainty, teach me to listen.

When I am tempted to rush ahead, slow me down.

Make my heart familiar with Your voice.

And when You whisper, help me notice.

Amen.

Reflection

Elijah had just experienced something enormous.

Earthquake. Fire.

A dramatic demonstration of God's power.

And yet when God came near to him afterward, He wasn't found in the wind, or the earthquake, or the fire.

He came in a gentle whisper.

I think many of us have accidentally trained ourselves to look for God in the dramatic.

The big opportunity.

The undeniable sign.

The open door that swings wide.

The moment when everything suddenly makes sense.

What if the invitation doesn't arrive as a lightning bolt?

What if it sounds more like:

Come sit with Me.

Make room.

Pay attention.

Call her.

Create again.

Let that go.

Rest here.

Take one more step.

The quieter invitations often require more faith.

They don't always give us certainty in the moment.

They simply ask us to become people who know the voice of the One we're following.

Today, carve out five quiet minutes.

No phone. No productivity. No agenda.

Just sit with God and ask: “What are You inviting me to notice?”

Then be still.
