Prayer
God,
Teach me the freedom of a discerning yes.
Help me understand that I don't have to participate in every good thing.
Give me wisdom to recognize the assignments You have actually entrusted to me.
When something is good but not mine, help me release it without guilt.
Protect me from the temptation to prove my goodness through constant availability.
Help me become faithful to the calling you have for my life—not merely busy with good things.
Amen.

Reflection
Here's a hard truth: Good things can still be the wrong things.
A good opportunity.
A good project.
A good relationship.
A good idea.
A good ministry.
A good use of your gifts.
A good thing can still be something God isn't asking you to do.
And that can be incredibly difficult for faithful people.
Because we want to help.
We want to serve.
We want to make good use of our gifts.
We want to say yes to meaningful things.
But if we say yes to every good thing, eventually we don't have room for the specific things God has actually entrusted to us.
This is where discernment becomes an act of love.
Saying no to something good isn't necessarily selfish.
Sometimes it's stewardship.
Sometimes it is the only way to protect the yes God has already given you.
Sometimes your "no" opens doors for the right person to say yes.
So perhaps the question isn't: “Is this good?”
Perhaps it's: “Is this mine?”
That question can save us from a lifetime of very noble exhaustion.
