The March Newsletter from Purpose + Grit Marketplace

Welcome to March.

Here in the midwest, we often find that March doesn’t quite know what it wants to be. One day, the snow falls sideways in blizzard-like sheets — sharp and unrelenting. The next, the sun pours down warm and golden, and you can almost smell spring in the air.

You see patches of grass bravely peeking through.
You hear birds testing out their songs.
You feel the hope of something new.

And then — winter reminds you it isn’t finished yet.

This is the season of the wait.

We are waiting for warmth. Waiting for what we know is coming, but cannot yet fully see.

And isn’t that so often what faith feels like?

There are days when God feels close — the light is bright, the path clear, the promise tangible. And then there are days that feel like whiteout conditions. Prayers seem to disappear into gray skies. Progress feels buried beneath layers of cold, hardened ground. And the warmth we so desperately long for is hidden.

March teaches us something holy about perseverance.

It teaches us that just because the landscape still looks frozen does not mean life is not stirring underneath.

It teaches us that obedience in the in-between matters. That patience in the unpredictable matters. That faithfulness when nothing looks different still matters.

In the Lenten season, we step intentionally into this waiting space. Lent is not flashy. It is quiet. It is steady. It is often uncomfortable. It invites us to walk with Jesus into the wilderness — not rushing ahead to resurrection morning but staying present here, in the uncomfortable in-between.

In the wilderness, perseverance is formed.
In the silence, trust deepens.
In the waiting, roots grow stronger.

We may long for immediate spring — for breakthrough, clarity, answered prayer, visible growth. But God often does His deepest work in what looks like dormant seasons.

Beneath frozen soil, roots are anchoring.
Within bare branches, sap is beginning to rise.
Under what appears lifeless, something faithful is unfolding.

This month, we will sit together In the Wait.

We will talk about perseverance when the road feels long.
Patience when timing feels uncertain.
Obedience when instructions feel small or unseen.

Because the wait is not wasted.

And neither are you.

If today feels bright and hopeful, thank God for the glimpse of spring.
If today feels like a blizzard, hold steady — the sun has not forgotten how to shine.

Spring is coming.
Resurrection is coming.
But for now, we walk faithfully through Lent — steady, rooted, and trusting the One who holds every season.

Here with you in the wait,

A Prayer as March begins...

Faithful God,

Teach me how to wait well.

When I want quick answers, grow patience in me.
When I want visible progress, grow perseverance in me.
When I want to run ahead, teach me obedience in the small, quiet steps.

In this Lenten season, lead me gently into deeper trust.
Root me beneath the surface.
Strengthen me where no one else can see.

Help me believe that You are working — even when the ground still looks frozen.

I choose to trust You in the wait.

Amen.
