This May we are holding space for tender hearts.

Hey there,

As we turn the page into May, we’re stepping gently into a sacred space together here at Purpose + Grit.

This month, our theme is one that touches every heart in some way—grief.

Not just the kind that comes from losing someone we love, but the quiet, often unseen grief too…

The prayers that went unanswered.
The dreams that didn’t unfold the way we hoped.
The versions of life we had to let go of.

Grief doesn’t follow a timeline. It doesn’t ask for permission. And more often than not, it leaves us searching for words that simply don’t come.

That’s why, this month, we are choosing to hold space for grief.

In each daily email, you’ll find a gentle rhythm—
a prayer, a verse, and a quiet reflection—
offered not as solutions, but as companions.

For those who are in the trenches of grief right now…
my hope is that these words feel like a hand to hold,
a place to rest,
a reminder that you are not alone in what you’re carrying.

And for those walking alongside someone who is grieving…
this is an invitation to lean in with tenderness,
to sit in the silence without needing to fix it,
to love well in the spaces where words fall short.

This month also holds something deeply personal for me.

At the end of May, I’ll be releasing my new book, When the Words Are Hard to Find—a collection born from walking through grief, both my own and alongside others. It was created to offer language when it feels out of reach… and to hold space when nothing feels like enough.

Over the years, I’ve shared prayer art and stories from my own grief journey—creating space for meaningful connections with many of you along the way.

This book brings my work together in one place, gathering many of your favorite stories and prayers from the past, along with new pieces I’ve never shared before.

At over 150 with full-color pages, it’s a collection created to be returned to again and again.

It's releasing at the end of May, with preorders open now.

Alongside the release of my new book, throughout the month, we’ll be featuring a curated collection of products for the grieving heart—pieces created by our community that offer comfort, remembrance, and quiet encouragement. Each one carries its own story, its own prayer, its own way of saying, “you are seen.”

If this is a tender season for you, you are welcome here—exactly as you are and if you know of someone who is deep in the trenches of grief right now, I ask that you invite them to join in our free daily prayer emails. Sign up here.

I pray this space gives you room to breathe, to feel, and to be held.

We are walking this together.

With love,

A Prayer as we head into May

God,

You see what we carry—
the grief we don’t always have words for,
the ache that lingers quietly beneath the surface,
the moments that feel heavier than we expected.

You see it all.

On the days when our hearts feel tired,
when memories rise up without warning,
when the weight of what was—or what could have been—feels close again…

be near to us.

Not in a rushed or distant way,
but in the steady, gentle way only You can be.

Remind us that we are not alone here.
That even in the quiet, even in the questions,
You are still present.

Give us grace for this season—
grace to feel what we feel without trying to fix it,
grace to move slowly,
grace to take the next small step forward.

And when we don’t have the words,
when our prayers feel unfinished or unsure…

hold what we cannot say.

Carry what feels too heavy.

And meet us right where we are.

Amen.

Thank you for being here.

Welcome to March. Here in the midwest, we often find that March doesn’t quite know what it wants to be. One day, the snow falls sideways in blizzard-like sheets — sharp and unrelenting. The next, the sun pours down warm and golden, and you can almost smell spring in the air. You see patches of grass bravely peeking through. You hear birds testing out their songs. You feel the hope of something new. And then — winter reminds you it isn’t finished yet. This is the season of the wait. We are...

Join us in prayer as we spread love and light this June. A Prayer to Be a Lighthouse Heavenly Father, I come before You with an open heart, humbled and grateful to be called Your child. In a world that often feels dim and heavy, I ask that You make me a lighthouse — steady, strong, and unshakable in Your truth. Let my life shine with the radiance of Your presence, guiding others through the storms of doubt, fear, and despair toward the safe harbor of Your grace. Lord, may Your love rise in me...
