Prayer
Lord,
You know the desires I carry—even the ones I have tried to bury.
You know what keeps returning to my heart.
Help me hold those things with open hands.
Keep me from forcing them into a calling simply because I want them.
But also keep me from dismissing them simply because they seem too inconvenient, too late, too small, or too impossible.
Show me what is from You. Teach me to listen without grasping.
And if something keeps returning because You are inviting me to notice it, give me the courage to look again.
Amen.
Verse of the Day
Reflection
Some things have a peculiar way of returning.
An idea you thought you had abandoned.
A dream you buried.
A person you keep thinking about.
A kind of work that makes you feel alive.
A question you haven't answered.
A desire you keep trying to talk yourself out of.
Sometimes we assume that if something keeps returning, it must be something we need to do.
But maybe the first invitation is simply to pay attention to the return.
Why does this keep coming back?
Why does this matter to me?
Why does this particular story still stir something in me?
Why do I keep imagining this possibility?
We don't have to immediately baptize every recurring desire as a calling.
But neither do we have to dismiss every desire as impractical, inconvenient, or foolish.
God made us with capacity for desire.
And sometimes desire becomes a doorway through which He gets our attention.
The question isn't:
“How do I make this happen?”
Not yet.
The question is:
“God, why does this keep returning?”
There is freedom in asking the question without demanding an answer.
Let the thing sit with you.
Pray over it.
Write about it.
Pay attention.
Some invitations need time before they become clear.
Encouragement
Invitation
What keeps returning to your heart?
Instead of asking “What am I supposed to do about it?” ask:
“God, what are You showing me through this?”
Just listen.
