Prayer
God,
Thank You that Your work in me is not an afterthought.
I can become so focused on what I am producing, building, giving, and accomplishing that I forget You care about the person I am becoming along the way.
Help me notice the growth that doesn't have a finished product attached to it. The patience I'm learning. The fear I'm facing. The grace I'm extending. The ways I'm beginning to trust You with things I once tried to control.
When I measure my life only by what I can show for it, bring me back to the truth that You are at work in places no one else can see.
Make me faithful in the work before me, but help me remember that my worth was never dependent on the harvest.
Amen.

Reflection
We spend a lot of time thinking about what we are here to do. We wonder what we should create, what we should contribute, what we should build, and how we might use what God has placed in our hands.
Those are meaningful questions. The work we do matters, and the ways we love and serve others matter.
But there is another question worth asking: Who am I becoming as I walk through all of this?
Perhaps you've become more patient with people whose lives look different from yours. Maybe you have learned to begin again without punishing yourself for what didn't work. Perhaps you are becoming more honest about your limits, more willing to receive help, or less dependent on other people's approval.
These changes may not be visible in the finished work you offer the world. You may not even have noticed them until someone pointed them out, or until you found yourself responding differently than you once would have.
Still, they matter.
The work God is doing in you is every bit as important as the work He is doing through you.
You don't have to choose between caring about your calling and caring for your own heart. You don't have to neglect your growth in order to prove your usefulness.
As you consider this season's harvest, remember to look inward, too. God has been at work in you, even on the days when you weren't sure anything was growing.
