You Can Leave Some Things Unfinished

This October, journey with us as we slow down to recognize what God has been growing, receive the fruit of His faithfulness, and give thanks for the harvest.

Prayer

God,

You know how uncomfortable unfinished things can make me feel. I want to complete what I started, understand what is happening, and see every loose end tied up.

Help me recognize the difference between what needs my faithful attention and what I am trying to finish simply because I don't know how to leave it unfinished.

Give me courage to take the next right step when there is one to take, and peace when the next step isn't clear. Remind me that I am not responsible for forcing every story to its conclusion.

Thank You for being patient with the work You are doing in me.

Amen.

Verse of the Day

Reflection

There is something about the changing seasons that makes us want to get everything in order. We look around at all that remains undone and wonder how we can possibly move forward with so much still hanging over us.

Some things genuinely do need our attention. We have responsibilities to honor, people to care for, and commitments we made in good faith.

But other things remain unfinished because life is still unfolding.

You may not have the answer to a question you've been carrying for months. A creative project might be waiting for the right time or the energy you don't currently have. A dream may still be taking shape. You might be learning something about yourself that you can't yet put into words.

Not every unfinished thing is a failure of faithfulness. Sometimes it is simply unfinished.

We can make ourselves miserable trying to manufacture closure where there isn't any. We rush toward an answer because uncertainty feels like a problem we should be able to solve.

What if you could let some things remain open without treating them as evidence that you've fallen behind?

God is not limited by the pace at which you understand, create, heal, or grow. You can be faithful today without resolving everything that will still be waiting for you tomorrow.

What unfinished thing could you stop treating as an emergency today?

The Ties That Bind: Poems on Life's Most Sacred Connections

In this book, Rachel Ann Dittmer reflects on relationships spanning over two decades of life, starting as far back as her teenage years. From fragile threads to enduring ties, these poems explore the beauty, pain, and complexity of the human connection.

With raw honesty, Rachel shares the thoughts she held in various relationships or putting herself in another’s shoes that shaped her understanding and actions. Her hope is that these words resonate with your own journey, offering comfort, clarity, or even courage as you navigate the ties that pull at your heart.

Whether you’re reflecting on relationships past or present, this collection invites you to connect with the shared experiences that bind us all.
