Let Yourself Celebrate

This October, journey with us as we slow down to recognize what God has been growing, receive the fruit of His faithfulness, and give thanks for the harvest.

Prayer

God,

Help me make room for joy.

I can be quick to acknowledge what went wrong and slow to celebrate what went right. I can move the finish line before I've even had a chance to appreciate how far I've come.

Teach me to recognize the gifts tucked into my days and to celebrate the good without wondering how long it will last.

Thank You for the work of my hands, for the people beside me, and for the moments that remind me life is more than a list of things to accomplish.

Amen.

Verse of the Day

Reflection

There is a difference between knowing something is good and actually letting yourself enjoy it.

You can know you have people who love you and still rush through the time you have together.

You can recognize that God has been faithful and still spend most of your prayers worrying about what comes next.

You can receive a gift and immediately start thinking about what you need to do in return.

I wonder how often we do this with the goodness of God.

We acknowledge it, perhaps even thank Him for it, and then move right along to the next concern.

But what if receiving is part of the practice of faith?

What if God isn't only inviting us to trust Him with what we lack, but to enjoy Him in what we have?

You don't have to wait until every loose end is tied up to experience the goodness of God. You don't have to solve every problem before you can be grateful for a beautiful afternoon or a conversation that leaves you feeling less alone.

There is goodness here, even in an unfinished life.

May we become people who know how to receive it.

Encouragement

Invitation

What is one thing from this past week that deserves a little celebration?

Name it. Thank God for it. If there's someone who would understand why it matters, tell them about it.
